World Congress 1999

The 1st World Congress took place in Quebec City, Canada in May 1999 and was hosted by the Association of Canadian Community Colleges with the planning committee comprising of organisations across the world representing colleges, polytechnics and technical vocational education (these organisations are listed
below).

The opening keynote address was given by His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal of the Heshemite Kingdom of Jordan. The attendance by His Royal Highness at the Congress strongly emphasises his committment to the advancement of education, science and technology. He has single-handedly
initiated, founded and is actively involved in a number of Jordanian and international institutes and committees.

The 1st World Congress was designed to focus on certain key topics reflective of worldwide concerns and to allow those with similar accountabilities, challenges and perspectives to work together via networking groups to create a future agenda.

The Congress aimed to create a set of recommendations (link) concerning funding and support of college and polytechnic education, links between the institutions and the economy, support needed from the enterprise sector in each country and individually supporting our students and helping our countries meet human resource development and environmental changes.
